After a little over a year of being "bikeless", I found a Shadow 1100 Aero on eBay in the Houston area. I placed a bid of $4500 thinking it would never meet the reserve (since the retail value is over $5000), but surprise! That was exactly the reserve price, and I have a new motorcycle.
I'll have to say it's one of the most beautiful cruisers ever made, and it's my favorite yellow, with a lot of red in it. (I guess you'd call it an "orangy" yellow.)
I spent some time on a Saturday morning (October 14, 2006) trying to get some good photographs. Here's what I came up with. Some were in view of the Fred Hartman bridge between Baytown and LaPorte, over the Houston Ship Channel. A few were in front of the old Southern Pacific steam locomotive at Roseland Park in Baytown, and one in front of an "antique" store on Alexander Drive, which happened to have some great colors to compliment the bike, and a cool sign. Here are a the first pictures I took when I got it home. (Click for a larger view.)
Motorcycle Cruiser magazine, in 2002, commented that "The low-slung look and stylish fishtail tip of the muffler is one of the Aero's most universally praised features." For some reason, the original owner of this bike chose to replace the beautiful fishtail exhaust with a pair of straight pipes. They're way too loud for my taste, and they are boring. I hope I can find an original system somewhere, as this model is no longer in production.
