WHY I AM NOT A CHRISTIAN
Introduction:
1. Many have been the times when we have wanted to ask this
question, or have wondered why more people are not Christians.
2. I propose to give answers people have given as to why they are
not Christians.
3. I wish to give a verse to answer each answer and show that God
will not accept them.
4. If you are not a Christian, may you listen carefully to see if
perhaps you have not offered this answer.
BODY:
1. Is it because of ridicule???
Luke 9:26 -- "Whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my
words, of him shall the Son of God be ashamed."
No one ever has or ever will suffer more shame and ridicule
than did Jesus Christ while He was on this earth, but he
had a purpose in doing so.
And today we have a purpose in becoming Children of God in
spite of the ridicule offered.
2. Is it because of the inconsistencies of professing Christians?
Rom. 14:12 -- "Every man shall give account of himself to God"
I am glad that I do not have to answer for your deeds and you
for mine.
We are each one held responsible to God.
3. Is it because I am not willing to give up all for Christ???
Mark 8:36 -- "What shall it profit a man, if he gain the
whole world and lose his own soul."
During the times of wars many think of the loss of money and
possessions, but how few think of the loss of souls.
Yet, one soul is more important than all the world.
4. Is it because I am afraid I shall not be accepted???
John 6:37 -- "Him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast
out."
The darkest sinner on earth can be accepted by Jehovah. Not in
his or her sins, but when penitent, none will be rejected.
The Blood of Christ will cleanse of all sins, "big" "little"
1 John 1:7 -- "The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us
from all sin."
5. Is it for fear I shall not hold out???
Phil. 1:6 -- "He which hath begun a good work in you will
perform it until the day of Jesus Christ."
An infant cannot walk at birth. God does not expect
perfection, but He does expect me to do my best.
This does not give us the right to commit wilful sin.
Gal. 5:13 -- "...use not your freedom for an occasion to
the flesh." Rom. 6:1
1 Cor. 10:13 -- able to bear all temptations.
6. Is it because I am thinking that I do as well as I can, and
that God ought to be satisfied with that???
Mt. 7:21 -- "Not everyone that sayeth to me.....doeth the will
God expects complete obedience to His laws.
Our thoughts are not to be compared to God's, therefore we
cannot place them along side of Jehovah's.
Ours is to ask "What shall you have me do, Lord." Then do it!!
7. Is it because I am postponing the matter without any definite
reason or reasons???
Prov. 21:7 -- "Boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou knowest
not what a day may bring forth."
Jas. 4:14 -- "Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow.
What is your life? For ye are a vapor that
appeareth for a little time and then vanisheth
away.
You have no promise of tomorrow. Heb. 10:27.
If one dies planning to be a Christian, he or she is no better
off than the rankest of sinners.
8. Is it because of closeness to parents??
Matt. 10:37 -- "He that loveth father or mother more than me
is not worthy of me."
Conclusion:
1. There may be other answers offered, but shall any stand?
2. When Eternity is at stake, why take the risk.
3. Have you tried to excuse yourself?
4. Tragically, these same excuses are offered by those who have
obeyed the Gospel, yet have since turned their back on the
Lord.
