TEACHING GOD'S WORD

Introduction:
     1. "GO ye into all nations and preach the gospel to every
creature, He that believeth and is baptized shall be
        saved."
     2. Jesus commanded that we teach the world the gospel.

BODY:

  I. GOD HAS EXPECTED (COMMANDED) HIS PEOPLE TO TEACH IN EVERY
     AGE:
     1. Under the Law of Moses: Deut. 4:9-10; 6:4-9; 11:18-20
     2. During the Prophets: Ezra 7:10, 25; Isa. 54:13.
     3. During the personal ministry of Christ: Matt. 5:1-2; 7:28-
        29; Acts 1:1.
     4. After the resurrection of Christ: Matt. 28:18-20; Acts
        5:42; 15:35.
     5. In our own age: Eph. 4:11; 1 Cor. 12:28; 2 Tim. 2:2; Heb.
        5:12.

II. GOD TELLS US WHAT HE WANTS TAUGHT:
     1. Whatsoever Jesus commanded: Mt. 17:5; Mt. 28:18-20.
        a. The word of the Lord -- Jn 14:26; Acts 15:35.
        b. The oracles of God -- 1 Peter 4:11.
        c. Things becoming to sound doctrine -- Titus 2:1.
        d. Things such as Timothy received from Paul -- 1 Tim.
           4:11-16; 2 Tim. 2:2.
     2. Not anything not commanded by Jesus: (NEGATIVE)
        a. As precepts of men -- Mt. 15:9.
        b. Fables -- 1 Tim. 4:7; 2 Tim. 4:3-4.
        c. A perverted gospel -- Gal 1:6-10.

III. HOW ARE WE TO TEACH???
     1. The manner of teaching:
        a. With authority -- Matt. 7:28-29; Acts 1:8.
        b. Accurately and effectively -- 2 Tim. 2:15; 3:16-17.
        c. Continuously -- 2 Tim. 4:1-4; 1 Tim. 4:13.
     2. Methods and places of teaching:
        a. In the home -- Eph. 6:4; 2 Tim. 3:15.
        b. In private dwellings -- Acts 18:7-8; Acts 28:30-31.
        c. In the market place -- Acts 17:17.
        d. From house to house and publicly -- Acts 5:42; 15:35;
           20:20.
        e. Inn places of worship -- Acts 17:17; Acts 19:8.
     3. We teach by our lives, as others watch us.

IV. THE OBJECT OF EFFECTIVE TEACHING:
     1. That children might be properly trained -- Eph. 6:4.
     2. That people may be taught, learn, and come to Jesus --
        John 6:44-45.
     3. That "babes," at first requiring "Milk," may come to be
full grown, capable of discerning evil from good --
        2 Pet. 2:1-2; Heb. 5:14.
     4. That all may be built up unto "the inheritance among all
them that are sanctified -- Jas. 1:21; Acts 20:32.

  V. PRACTICAL OBSERVATIONS:
     1. The question might be asked, "Just who is to teach?" We
should already have seen that through the lesson, but let
us point it our more clearly -- EACH ONE, EACH CHILD OF
GOD HAS THE OBLIGATION TO TEACH SELF AND OTHERS.
     2. But, before we can teach others we must STUDY OURSELF.
     3. This is a daily responsibility.
     4. Illustration:
Son: "Mother, isn't this God's Book?"
Mother: "Yes, son, it is. Why?"
Son: "Well, don't you think we had better send it back, we
             never use it."
     5. I could not teach you how to cook if I were not able to
cook. Or, at least had studied how to cook.
     6. It seems as if some think, "Buildings are built, preachers
hired to teach." But, it does not follow that this would
give us reason not to teach.
We may well support others to give time to teaching,
but that doesn't remove our obligation to teach.
     7. WE MUST GO FORTH AND TEACH!!!
        a. Medicine is good for children, but not too often do
they come and ask for it.
        b. The gospel is good for people (they cannot be saved
without it) but, they will not always come and ask for
           it.
        c. The Lord said, "GO"!
        d. A liar will not come and say, "Teach me to quit lying."
            Neither the drunkard, thief, etc.
     8. If you did not know the truth, would you not count it a
great blessing and a good friend who would come to you and
        teach you.
     9. Cf. Like as one who would save you from a devastating
        fire.

Conclusion:
     1. No doubt, I have said very little that most of us did not
already know. But, often we need reminders of the things
we should and/or should not be doing.
     2. The results of teaching:
        LEARNING AND OBEYING
