"MEET FOR THE MASTER'S USE"
Introduction:
1. 2 Tim. 2:21
2. It should be the desire of each and every child of the flesh
to be a vessel, "Meet for the Master's use."
3. Man has been created to serve Jehovah.
4. If we refuse this service then we have misused the very
purpose for which we were created.
5. Paul states that some had erred, and the faith of others had
been overthrown (vs. 16-18); unrighteousness followed.
6. In order to be "meet for the Master's use" there are some
things which necessarily must come to pass.
BODY:
I. HE WHO PURGES HIMSELF:
1. 2 Tim. 2:21 -- purge self, sanctified, prepared, etc.
2. Cleanse -- separate or cease communion with evil
(a) 2 Cor. 6:17 -- "Come ye out....be ye separate...."
(b) Col. 2:21 -- "Handle not, nor taste, nor touch...."
3. Moses could not be used of God until he separated himself
from Egypt. Heb. 11:26 -- "He forsook Egypt."
4. Abraham was called upon to leave his country. -- Heb. 11:8.
5. The Israelites were to be separated from the nations around
them.
When they ceased this separation, they were carried away
into bondage.
6. There has never been room for the children of the Devil in
the family of God.
7. Other passages:
(a) Titus 3:5 -- "washing of regeneration...."
(b) 1 Pet. 1:18-19 -- "redeemed...."
(c) Acts 22:16 -- "wash away your sins..."
II. THE ONE WHO LOVES GOD:
1. Full love on the part of man is demanded. -- Mt. 22:37-38.
2. Peter was not prepared to feed the sheep or to do anything
else for the Lord unless he committed his love to the Lord.
Jn. 21:15-17.
3. 1 Jn. 5:3 -- Love keeps His commandments. Jn. 14:15.
III. THE ONE WHO PLACES HIMSELF AT GOD'S DISPOSAL:
1. Must have the spirit of Christ -- Lk. 22:42 "Not my will,
but thine be done."
2. Isaiah's attitude. -- Isa. 6:8 "Here am I, send me."
3. To the rich man, Jesus said, "Go sell what you have, give to
the poor and FOLLOW ME.
4. Unless we surrender to God, we cannot be of use to Him.
5. Nothing short of COMPLETE OBEDIENCE will suffice.
IV. THE ONE WHO MAKES PREPARATION:
1. Many cannot be used (or useful) because they are not
prepared.
2. Eph. 6:15 -- "...having shod your feet with the preparation
of the gospel of peace,....."
3. Moses spent 80 years preparing to serve Jehovah.
4. 2 Tim. 2:21 -- "....prepared unto every good work...."
5. One cannot accidently serve God.
6. This is no chance service, but it comes as the result of
preparation, planning.
7. How many have made some trip without looking at a map,
making preparations. Getting the clothes ready, the car
ready, etc. Often weeks in advance.
V. MUST BE A MAN OR WOMAN OF PRAYER:
1. The great men of God have been strong and mighty in prayer.
2. They have realized the importance of "talking to God."
3. Col. 4:2 --"Continue stedfastly in prayer, watching therein
with thanksgiving;...."
4. Obviously, one must be a child of God to be able to ask
anything of Him. God does not have children outside of His
family.
5. What a valuable weapon for man's use, if we but realize it.
VI. ONE MUST BE A STUDENT OF HIS WORD:
1. This is the weapon for our warfare. - Eph. 6:17--"Sword..."
2. If we do not believe it, know it, and know how to use it,
then we cannot possibly become "meet for the Master's use."
3. It is through our obedience to that Word that we purge
ourself; that we sanctify ourself, that we prepare ourself
and become "meet for the Master's use."
4. 1 Pet. 1:18-25.
Conclusion:
1. Mankind must made self "meet for the Master's use."
2. Does this mean that we, of our own ability, can make ourself
right in God's sight?
3. NO!!! But, we do have a part in our salvation. We MUST
accept the commands of the Lord; MUST do His will.
4. Acts 2:40 -- "save yourselves...."
5. It isn't enough to just be a good person, a good husband, a
good wife, a good citizen, a good neighbor, etc.
6. WE MUST DO GOD'S WILL.
